Slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno fled to Mwanza, Tanzania early August just weeks before her death, reports the Standard.
Ms. Otieno's lifeless body was retrieved from Kodera forest with autopsy report indicating that she was stabbed eight times by her tormentors.
Her mother, Melinda Auma, claims that her daughter fled to the neighboring country after threats from her tormentors to abort unborn child intensified.
“Sharon woke up one morning and told me she wanted to go to Tanzania because she was no longer safe in Kenya. She didn't tell me who was threatening her life," Ms Auma said.
She added: "She travelled to Mwanza by road. While there, she switched off her phones to prevent anyone from reaching her."
Already, Migori Governor Okoth Obado's aide Michael Oyamo, taxi driver Jackson Otieno, bodyguard Elvis Omondi have been detained by the police after being linked to the abduction by journalist Barack Oduor, who however escaped by whisker after jumping out of the speeding vehicle.
Mr. Caspal Obiero, another aide to the governor and former Kanyadoto MCA Lawrence Mula are also in police custody.
Obiero was arrested on Monday after it was established that his vehicle, a Toyota Fielder registered under his wife's name, was used in the abduction of Sharon and Mr. Oduor.
Detectives detained Mr. Obado on Friday after intensive interrogations at DCI headquarters in Nairobi.
"I can confirm that he will spend the weekend in cell and will be charged with murder on Monday," said Cliff Ombeta, his lawyer.
Fundamentally, the investigators established that Sharon's unborn baby was fathered by Mr. Obado following a successful DNA test.
Last week, Obado denied links to the murder even though he admitted having had a relationship with the slain student.
"I don't have anything to do with her murder. Police should arrest her killers," he had said.
