Last year, Mr Magid hit headlines when he ceremoniously banned US President Donald Trump from visiting his Steel City in UK, over his anti-Islam policies.

Mr Magid Magid,29, had a brief stay in Kenya's Dadaab camp before his family managed to secure citizenship in Britain, a country that has hosted them for decades.

“We did it. Today is about a Green Wave cascading through Europe & landing on the shores of Yorkshire for the first time. We're just getting started," he said as quoted by The Independent.

“This’ll be more than a fleeting midsummer night’s dream in Brussels. We’re going to turn the tide of history!”

Former Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow lauded his achievements, arguing that the youthful legislator will now have a chance to make a real impact in Europe.

"Somali born former refugee Magid who was Lord Mayor of Sheffield in UK has won a seat in the European Parliament on Greens party.

"Mashaa Allah. Remarkable! Remember he banned Trump from visiting his city. Now he has the platform to make an impact in Europe! May Allah guide him," wrote Kerrow.

In 2017, another Somalia refugee, IIhan Omar, who stayed in Kenya's Dadaab camp, won Congressional seat to represent Minnesota in US Congress.

She has been making headlines lately due to her criticism on US foreign policy and President Trump's alleged anti-Islam policies.
