The accident happened at Lower Kathome area in Machakos County.

Among the thirty, twenty sustained minor injuries, while ten suffered serious injuries, from the accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a minibus.

Reports indicate that the two vehicles collided head on along the Makutano-Machakos road.

The minibus was heading to Machakos from Nairobi, while the matatu was heading to Kyumbi at the time of the accident.

According to Katelembu Assistant Chief Josephine Munyiva Mbithi, the matatu driver is among those who sustained serious injuries.

"There's a grisly accident that happened at Kathome from Makutano to Machakos involving a minibus and a Nissan Matatu, which collided head on, she said.

Mbithi noted that the matatu had two occupants at the time of the accident, but could not confirm the number of passengers in the minibus.

The accident caused traffic jam in the area, forcing police officers to camp at the scene to ease movement of vehicles.

"The minibus closed the road after the accident, traffic police arrived at the scene to control traffic," she said.
