The National Government should speed up its processes in resolving the long-standing squatter problem, especially in the coastal region. Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has said.
The governor lamented that the menace of absentee landlords coupled with historical land injustices has brought countless conflicts over land ownership and needs to be fully addressed.
If addressed, Kingi said it will enable the Coastal people to get their rightful title deeds which will enable them use their land productively as well as use it as security for developing their personal advancement.
The governor was speaking when he attended the Mazrui Land petition hearing where he gave his witness account to the Parliamentary Land Committee led by its Chairperson Kitui South MP, Racheal Nyamai at Takaungu and Basi primary school in Kibarani ward, Kilifi North Sub-county.

The petition was presented to parliament by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya who decried that indigenous people are certainly the most common vulnerable segments of the society.
"Confronted by this depressing economic statistic a state is indebted to speeding up it's efforts towards recognising the plight of the indigenous communities," Baya said on Friday.
The lawmaker noted that the land issue at the coast is a thorn in the flesh but expressed optimism that as things seem to be, the contentious issues of land in the coast will soon be put to an end by the government.
During the last general election the ODM MP promised to address issues of land for his constituents.
