A trip to Kampala 13 years ago set pace for COTU boss Francis Atwoli where he met his third wife, Mary Kilobi.
In the company of his second wife, whom he has since separated with after joining politics, Atwoli would met Kilobi, then working as an intern in Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation.
"I was in the company with my second wife whom I released to do politics. At that particular time, we talked ... she was still young ... I told her that when she matured, whether it would take 1,000 years, I would marry her," he said.
The COTU Secretary General added: "She came back to Kenya and got job with Standard. I trust her ... she is my assistant and my love and she takes care of me."
By then, the KTN Swahili anchor was studying Journalism at the lucrative Makerere University.
Despite the age difference of 34, the two are currently married and stays in Kitengela.
Recently, the soft spoken Kilobi dismissed claims that she went to the 69-year-old trade unionist because of money.
"I married Atwoli because I love him. I never moved in because of money."
