In his salutation, Ruto observed protocol, but could not hold back his political tactics when he cheekily addressed Mudavadi’s past career.

Mudavadi served as second in command during the last days of the era of retired President Daniel Moi.

“The President of the Republic of Kenya Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, your excellency Salva Kiir, the President of South Sudan, your lordship, the Chief Justice, and president of the Supreme Court Justice David Maraga, the speakers of the two houses, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi, I don’t why we keep forgetting that once upon a time Mudavadi was our Vice President.” he said amid laughter from the crowd.

"It may have been for a short time, but I also suffered the same fate, I was minister for Home Affairs for two months

During the service, Uhuru urged leaders not to engage in politics at the expense of development, adding that leaders should unite and forge on with developmental plans.

“President Kenyatta has urged leaders to stop politicking and instead act on the promises and commitments made to the people of Kenya. The President said the only way to build a better nation that is all inclusive is by walking the talk for the benefit of all Kenyans,” State House tweeted.
