DPP Haji found himself in the public glare after a photo of him wearing a shirt with KANU insignia surfaced online.
In the photo, a young Noordin Haji is standing next to his father Senator Yusuf Haji and the Late Prof. George Saitoti all donning t-shirts with the words “Moi Juu” printed on them.
Given the sensitive cases that he is handling, scores of Kenyans were of the view that the photo demonstrated that he was not apolitical as required by law.
DPP Haji has however explained that he was still in University when that photo was taken in Garissa County.
Mr Haji said that the photo was taken in 1997 when Retired President Daniel arap Moi was visiting Ijara in Garissa County to declare it a district.
“The photo was taken in 1997 when President Moi was visiting Garissa. I was 24 and in University. We were preparing to welcome him, it wasn't an election or political rally,” said the DPP.
The DPP has in the previous past said that his office is independent and does not take orders from any quarters.
“I don’t take orders from the executive or anywhere. I decide on who to charge in court basing on the available evidence,” said Haji.
