Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate for the Migori senatorial race Ochilo Ayacko is leading as the vote tallying process proceeds.

The county was on Monday sent back to the poll to elect a new Senator following the death of Ben Oluoch Okello on June 19.

Reports on Citizen Digital indicate that Ochillo had garnered 39, 880 votes by 5:54 am on Tuesday, representing 54.6 percent of all the counted votes so far.

His closest rival Eddy Oketch who is eyeing the seat on the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) had 29, 412 votes by that time.

The others, Samuel Otieno who is vying on an independent candidate had 315 votes by the time.

Samuel Hodo who has already withdrawn his candidature and who was vying on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had garnered 119 votes.

Peter Jobando of the Green Congress Party had 219 and Ogola Ogola, another independent candidate, had 226 votes.

The results which have already been tallied are from 4 out of the 8 constituencies, with the remaining yet to be concluded.

The county has a total of 388, 633 voters.

Both Ayacko and Oketch who are frontrunners in the race had expressed their confidence in advance, each anticipating victory after the completion of the ongoing counting process.
