Governor James Ongwae has opposed Kibra MP Ken Okoth's plan to sponsor a Bill to legalize bhang.
The ODM allied Governor said legalizing bhang will increase crime in the country.
"Legalizing bhang in this country will ruin the lives of our young people. I urge MPs to shoot down the Bill immediately it arrives in Parliament for the sake of saving the lives of our future generation," he said.
Mr. Ongwae argued that bhang has been a threat in this country because 'it promotes' crime.
"We have witnessed cases where young people smoking bhang and later end up robbing and killing innocent people," he noted.
He urged police officers across the county to ensure no one ferries bhang to the market for young people to buy.
"Police at road blocks must be on high alert inspecting vehicles to arrest anyone found transporting bhang," he said.
The governor was speaking on Wednesday in his office.
