The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) together with the Ministry of Education led by Cabinet Secretary Amb Amina Mohammed on Friday released the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
The results saw over 90,000 candidates score grade C+ plus and above which is the minimum entry requirement for a public university.
315 students managed to secure grade A plain with the best student Otieno Irene Juliet managing an A plain of 87.64 points.
Unlike the previous years, the Ministry went further and compiled a list of the most improved students where their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) score from four years ago was compared with what they scored in this year's KCSE results.
The CS noted that five students stood out when their results were compared with what they scored in primary school.
The most improved candidate was Josphat Mwangi Kamau from Mioro Secondary school in Murang’a County who got 278 marks in KCPE but improved and secured a mean grade of A- in his KCSE.
At position two in the list was Kyulu Richard who got 257 marks in KCPE but came out with a B+.
Maingi George Mburu who scored 279 marks but secured an impressive B+ in KCSE was the third in the list.
The fourth student; Wambui James Kamau managed to get a B- in KCSE after joining high school with only 186 marks.
Cheruiyot Gideon was the fifth most improved student who managed just 209 marks in KCPE but ended up scoring a B.
