Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has revoked the business permit for Shalom Community Hospital in Machakos.
Speaking during a press briefing at the facility, the governor ordered the immediate closure of the hospital following the death of a 7-month-old baby.
The deceased, Ethan Muendo, died shortly after receiving treatment at the facility.
"For the security, safety and health of our people, this hospital is not admitting any new patients and from 6pm this hospital will be closed. I have withdrawn the business permit until further notice," said Mutua.
The governor who arrived at the hospital minutes after residents and journalists stormed the facility demanding justice for baby Ethan, said that the interest and safety of his people come first.
"I call for the arrests and prosecution of the doctor in charge, the hospital's administration, pharmacists and directors," said Mutua.
The county boss noted that the patients admitted at the hospital will be cleared within the next 48 hours.
According to Mutua, the hospital's operational license has also been revoked.
"My government has hereby revoked the business permit for Shalom Hospital and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists (KMPD) Board has also revoked Shalom Hospital's operational license," said Mutua.
