Wajir county government, the National Drought Management Authority, Oxfam and the security committee have began a campaign aimed at promoting peace in the region.

Recently the elders, local leaders and county security officials were sent to Laisamis in Marsabit county for a peace meeting.

Wajir governor Mohamed Ali said peace will play pivotal role in the county's development.

"There is need for residents to maintain peace and cohesion in the county. Violence and bad relationships among the locals will hinder development in the county as well scare away investors", he said.

The governor added that his administration will unite all the communities living in the county.

"My government is committed to ensure their is unity, peace and harmony in the county. Community elders, political and church leaders should help in promoting peace in the region", said the governor.

He challenged critics to support the peace campaign for the sake of development in the county.
