According to eyewitnesses, the businesswoman decided to strip naked to resist law enforcement officers from the Garissa County government who were on a mission to evict traders who had invaded an area reserved for vehicle parking.

"The lady undressed in broad daylight when she was unable to rescue her goods which the county askaris wanted to forcefully take away from the reserved parking space," narrated Rukia Salim, a shopper who also got herself in the melee.

"It is a taboo for a woman to strip naked in public. Even if it is to protect anything, it was too much,' revealed another witness only identified as Kamaa.

However, a section of traders in the market area has disputed reports that the woman allegedly stripped herself, blaming the county law enforcers for stripping and humiliating the lady in public.

The matter has since captured the attention of Garissa County Head of the enforcement units Major Rtd Hassan Ibrahim, who has since defended his officers while describing the incident as unfortunate.

“The said lady was unruly, very abusive to our officers to the extent of undressing herself in public,” Hassan told journalists in his office.
