Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut has claimed that if Deputy President (DP) William Ruto picks Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru as his running mate, he is guaranteed of the presidency.
The DP has already announced his interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, but is yet to name his preferred running mate.
According to Chepkut, Ruto should pick the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary as his deputy, to become the front-runner in the race to the State House.
"A William Ruto/Anne Waiguru candidature will sweep the presidency by 1pm in August of 2022," Chepkut tweeted on Wednesday.
The Independent legislator was reacting after Waiguru revealed she had received offers for DP position from two parties.
“I have at least two offers for the deputy president position, but it is not the right time to name the parties,” she told Daily Nation.
Waiguru's announcement has elicited mixed reactions online with some Kenyans endorsing her, with others dismissing her ambitions.
Pheneus Munene termed the Governor as a woman of many firsts, and expressed confidence she could be Kenya's first female Deputy President.
"She was the first Woman CS to implement the devolved system, the first female vice chair for the Council of Governors (COG), I believe she can be the first female deputy president," Munene tweeted.
On his part, Hassan Hadji disqualified Waiguru on grounds of alleged corruption.
"Kenyans what is wrong with you? NYS Scandal is still smelling fresh and then this? We will never learn. Lets cry again we are used to this," Hadji remarked.
