The summit brings together Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and Senators from across the country to discuss ways of coming up with proper laws to strengthen devolution.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was supposed to officially open the summit today, but it is now clear that he will not be in Kisumu for the event.

According to Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s press unit director, Alloys Ager, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa is the one who will officially open the summit.

“The CS for devolution is already in Kisumu and as we speak, he is heading to Governor Nyong’o’s office before they leave together for the summit’s venue,” he said in an exclusive interview.

An initial report from Governor Nyong’o indicated that the Head of State, Deputy President William Ruto, and ODM party leader Raila Odinga were expected in Kisumu for the event.

But Ager now says the two leaders’ attendance is subject to confirmation.

“As for now we are not that sure, but we will be able to confirm of their availability as events unfold,” he said.

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka is among leaders attending the summit.
