A spot check by this writer at the Nakuru Central Police station on Monday revealed that several vehicles have been impounded for one reason or another with passengers having to suffer the crackdown's consequences.

Some of the passengers in a bus headed to Busia from Mombasa said they had been arrested more than twice before they got to Nakuru County.

They spoke to this writer in Nakuru town on Monday.

According to the passengers, police intercepted the first bus in which they were traveling in after it got involved in an accident near Mariakani leaving many with injuries.

They said they were forced to board the second bus since the first one had been damaged due to the accident only to be arrested in Naivasha and Nakuru respectively.

Their driver was arreigned and charged at a Nakuru court.

The tired passengers were, however, optimistic that their journey would be successful.

They reiterated that the new traffic rules are painful to passengers who have to be subjected to a lot of humiliations due to vehicles' owners' mistakes.

“The laws are not helping us. We have been involved in road accidents twice since our journey started but when we try to explain to the police they are not listening to us. We have been here for more than three hours,” a passenger told this writer.
