Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji is the chairperson of the Building Bridges Task Force that was formed immediately after the famous March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Haji co-chairs the committee with Busia Senator Amos Wako who represents the interest of the opposition.
The committee was formed to fast-track the unity deal between Uhuru and Raila.
Among the key issues the committee is discussing and later come up with proposals include ethnic antagonism, corruption and national inclusivity in terms of leadership positions.
On Friday, the committee met with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga at State House where it gave a progress report.
The details of the report remain secretive.
However, confidential sources claim that the committee is proposing joint countywide visits by President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga as part of national healing and reconciliation.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Uhuru and Raila picked Senators Haji and Wako to co-chair the committee because of their political experience on national issues.
“Haji and Wako are among the country’s veteran politicians and public administrators who have wealth of experience on the issues facing the country,” he said.
The committee that was gazetted is said to be finalising on its report before making it public.
A section of politicians has, however, been questioning the legality of the committee.
