A Kisii countyfamily’s joy of getting a baby turned tragic after the mother diedimmediately after delivery through a caesarian section surgery.
The family fromOpenda village, Chitago location, in Gucha South sub-county was yet to come to terms with the death of a mother of seven who left them with a one-week old infant.
The deceasedMargaret Kwamboka Ongubo (42), had previously delivered other sixchildren normally according to family sources.
Interviewed at hishome on Sunday, James Ongubo, the husband explained he, had rushed hiswife to Tabaka Mission Hospital in the area when she developed labor painswhere she was admitted.
Ongubo further claimed, “The medical doctors asked me to authorize the conducting of the caesarian section operation on my wife after they had found that the baby was irregularly positioned in the womb.”
After the operation, said Ongubo, he was called to the wards and handed over the 4kg baby girl while his wife remained in the theater.
Ongubo claimed him and family members who accompanied him saw some nurses rush in panicking mode, looking for blood to transfuse his wife only to be told later that she had succumbed to profuse bleeding.
Ongubo demanded justice be done and petitioned the government to investigate circumstances under which his wife died.
Truphena Orang’o, sister to the deceased appealed for assistance to care for the baby and settle the hospital bill which was yet to be disclosed owing to the family’s economic strain.
Efforts to get a comment from Tabaka mission hospital administrator and medical officer-in-charge proved futile by the time we filed this story as the staff we talked to became uncooperative.
