Gor Mahia football club was on Sunday held to a barren draw in Burundi in a preliminary round clash of the CAF Champions League.
Burundian side Aigle Noir proved a hard nut to crack in front of their home fans at the Intwari Stadium, Bujumbura.
New Gor Mahia coach Steve Polack took charge of team for the first time, even as Aigle Noir failed to capitalize on their home advantage.
In addition, Tanzanian shot stopper David Mapigano debuted in the post as Nicholas Kipkurui and Dickson Ambundo partnered upfront; while new signing Maurice Ojwang, Gislain Yikpe, and Francis Afryie failed to travel due to registration hitches and hope they will be ready to debut during the August 24th, return leg clash.
The draw means Gor Mahia will have to work hard during their second leg in two weeks' time in Nairobi, as a goal by Noir will complicate things for them.
The winner is likely to face Algeria's USM Alger after the Algiers beat AS Sonidep; 2 - 1 in Niamey, Niger on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the other Kenyan representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Bandari FC were also held to a goalless draw at home by Sudanese side Al Ahly Shendi on Saturday.
