Former Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga caused laughter on Monday when he revealed the man he believes may replace ODM leader Raila Odinga as Kenya's main opposition leader.
Mutunga who was speaking during the launch of the book "Kenya Elections 2017: The Failed Quest for Electoral Justice" at Nairobi's Intercontinental Hotel said the position has to be filled immediately to enable the opposition effectively check the government especially at a time the country is facing run-away corruption.
He said unless the post is immediately filled, Raila may be forced to take up the position again.
"I want to warn Kenyans that the position of official opposition leader must be filled with utmost urgency," he said at the launch of the book written by journalist John Onyando.
"And I want to openly say that unless someone else fills up that position quickly, Raila may go back and fill it."
There have been claims that Raila quit the opposition following his Harambee House meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9th although the former Langata MP insists he is still firmly in NASA.
Pundits say that from the time he met Uhuru, Raila has never criticized the government even after it recently emerged that a mega corruption scandal had hit the NYS again, a development that made the taxpayer lose close to Sh10 billion.
