Deputy President William Ruto is currently considered one of the biggest political hard-sells in the Luo Nyanza region.

This is despite him being a darling of the region's inhabitants at some point, following his alliance with opposition leader Raila Odinga in the run up to the 2007 presidential polls.

He has, however, grown into a hindrance to Raila's presidential ambitions over time, and is currently considered Odinga's main threat in the approaching 2022 polls.

However, his biggest mistake has been his regular insults on the former Prime Minister, an unacceptable characteristic to the region where the former premier enjoys massive support.

He has topped this up by branding Odinga's names, calling him 'mganga' (witchdoctor) and 'jamaa wa vitendawili' (riddler) both of which are disrespectful to the senior politician.

Consequently, the same would see President Uhuru Kenyatta with whom they were vying for the top seat in the 2O17 garner close to nothing in the Luo Nyanza region in the race.

And though he seems to have reformed after the March 9 Odinga-Kenyatta truce, the damage is already done, and he obviously will have a very low chance in the region in his 2022 bid.

He will, therefore, be forced to work extra hard to gain the close to 2 million votes up for grabs in the region, as opposed to initially when it would have been a walk in the park.

Ruto will have only himself and his poor verbal composition to blame, should he lose in the race.
