A man was on Monday arraigned before a Nakuru Law Court to answer to charges of assaulting his landlord.

According to the prosecution, the suspect, Yohana Sunday on May 20 in Kaptembwo estate within Nakuru County allegedly assaulted his landlord George Shiundu.

He was charged with causing bodily harm to Shiundu who was asking for rent balance for that month.

The court heard that on the material date, Shiundu who is the landlord had gone to collect rent from the accused who was not pleased by the landlord’s decision to go to his house late in the evening asking for rent.

Daily Nation reports that the accused descended on his landlord with blows and kicks before an agent who had accompanied him came to his rescue.

Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo heard that the complainant reported the matter at Kaptembwo Police Station and a manhunt for the accused was launched after he went into hiding upon learning that the police were looking for him.

He was arrested by the police on June 8 in Kaptembwo.

The suspect admitted to the charges but in mitigation, he pleaded for forgiveness saying he was remorseful and regretted his actions. 

Mention for the case has been scheduled for June 24.
