Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said President Uhuru Kenyatta was not happy with Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu's arrest.
Kalonzo said the head of state was surprised by Mwilu's arrest in August over corruption claims.
According to the former Vice President, Mwilu’s arrest was meant to demean the Judiciary.
Kalonzo said the president unsuccessfully tried to reach out to Chief Justice David Maraga through the Attoney General Paul Kihara when Mwilu was arrested.
"The President told me that he was surprised when DCJ Mwilu was arrested and arraigned in court," Kalonzo said.
He spoke during a live interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday.
Kalonzo said the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji erred in ordering for Mwilu’s arrest.
He said Mwilu’s case should have been left with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to handle.
“The matters were weighty and should have been handled by the JSC,” Kalonzo added.
Mwilu was arrested and arraigned in court over alleged corruption and tax evasion charges.
The High court, however, stopped her prosecution temporarily.
Mwilu filed an application in High Court seeking to stop the DPP from prosecuting her.
The application will be heard on October 9.
