A good number of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) across the country are arguably form four leavers with others even well educated.
With the MCAs having a different level of education, communication can at times be a challenge amongst them. This is perhaps what might have caused an MCA in Uasin Gishu county assembly to cause drama during a session when he complained over a fellow mhehimiwa's use of 'too much' English.
It was on February 22, 2018, when Kipkenyo Ward Representative Hillary Rono stood for a point of order when a nominated MCA Jenny Too was giving her contributions to a debate on the floor of the house.
Rono who spoke fluent Swahili urged the Speaker David Kiplagat to intervene and ask Too, daughter to the Kanu era politician Mark Too to go slow on her English.
"Mheshimiwa Spika, mjumbe mteule kiingereza chake kinaendeshwa kwa haraka sana hadi sisi wajumbe wengine hatuelewi. (Mr speaker, the nominated member's English is too fast to the extent some of us are floating)," said Rono as quoted by Tuko.
"I pray Mr speaker that you guide her to slow down the speed of her speech so that we the locals can at least keep with tabs of what is being said in this honourable House," he added.
The speaker immediately advised the MCA on the floor to consider the pleas by her colleagues to which she obliged.
However, the assembly leadership later dismissed reports that some of its members were illiterate and could not understand English.
