The study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, however, notes that the trend is not good for one's health, as it is believed to lead to some serious consequences.

According to the study results, drinking the hot beverage could have a possible connection as to why Kenya registered a high number of esophageal cancer cases.

The research findings indicate that the thermal injury from the hot beverage could lead to cancer.

"Thermal injury from hot food and beverages" has been mooted as a possible cause," reads the report's findings in part, reports the Daily Nation.

The study notes that Kenyans drink their tea at 72.1 degrees Celsius, a reason that can possibly be linked to the high cases of oesophagal cancer reported in the country.

The report, however, fails to make any definite conclusions, instead proposing further research into the findings.

The research was carried out in several countries including Tanzania, Brazil, United States, United Kingdom, Germany and China

Tanzania and Brazil came in second and third respectively.
