Briefing journalist’s after the meeting, Raila said they discussed the ongoing famine and starvation caused by prolonged drought in some counties.

Raila also said the leaders discussed the region's as well as the country’s unity, adding that there is a need for Kenyans to remain united and co-exist peacefully.

“Kenya is one nation, there should be no discrimination or tribalism,” the ODM Party leader said.

Raila said the leaders also deliberated about the ongoing war against corruption, noting that the Rift Valley politicians have agreed to fully support the government's renewed war against graft.

The former prime minister maintained that the anti-corruption war is not targeting any community and urged politicians not to politicise the matter.

“We agreed that the war on graft must be done expeditiously so that action is taken against the culprits,” he added.

The opposition chief also noted that they agreed the government should provide grants to maize, tea and dairy farmers in Rift Valley.

The meeting with Rift Valley leaders comes at a time when Raila and Deputy President William Ruto are engaged in a war of words over the famous March 9, 2018 handshake and the fight against graft.

Ruto is accusing Raila of using the handshake to create a rift among Jubilee leaders.

The ODM leader has however rubbished the claims, noting that the handshake is aimed at bringing unity in the country.
