A female pilot has denied claims that she has been listed as the pilot who will fly President Uhuru Kenyatta to the US during the Nairobi - New York Kenya Airways inaugural direct flight.
Captain Koki Mutungi on Thursday in a tweet said the claims are allegations of bloggers and she does not understand why Kenyans online are fueling the claims.
"No, I have not been settled on to fly President Uhuru Kenyatta to the US for the inaugural Nairobi-US flight," Captain Koki Mutungi said Thursday in an interview.
The Kenya-US direct flights will officially be launched on October 28 and the investment is expected to boost tourism and trade between the two countries.
"Thank you for all your kind words and congratulatory messages. I am truly overwhelmed but Kenya Airways has not yet selected who gets to do the inaugural US flight," she added.
There had been claims on social media last week that Captain Mutungi had been selected by the national carrier to fly the Kenya Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner to New York during the launch.
She said the claims emanated after she attended a media event she attended with the US Secretary for Trade. She is recognized as Africa's first B787 female captain.
