Whereas Joho has remained loyal to ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kingi is seemingly keen to chart his own political path, away from the Orange party which gave him the political muscle.

With both of them laying strategies to give them an edge in the 2022 political contest, Joho is not staying pretty with Kingi keen to eclipse him as the region’s kingpin.

With the Kilifi Governor banking on a group of MPs from the region that have been at loggerheads with ODM over 2022 politics, Joho is keen to counter him by reaching out to the Members of the County Assemblies (MCAs).

Joho is keen to use MCAs to bankroll his political maneuverers as they have too much influence at grassroots level.

“That is why the Governor has decided to find the meeting (today, Wednesday) with the MCAs because they have a huge say at the grassroots and could make matters different for MPs, as it happened to those who defected to Jubilee before last year’s election,” said a lawmaker on condition of anonymity.

As to whether the new move by Joho will water down Kingi’s growing influence remains to be seen.
