A Leader of Majority from Gusii region has congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to coordinate and supervise national government projects.
Kisii County assembly Majority Leader Timothy Ogugu said Matiang'i's appointment is a clear indication Gusii community members working in the national government are performing well.
"I wish to thank the President for considering Matiang'i. As a community we must commend the head of State for appointing one of our own," he said.
Mr Ogugu warned a section of local politicians against opposing Matiangi's appointment, adding that Matiang'i has shown seriousness in his work since he joined government.
"Some politicians seeking political relevance may be out to oppose Matiang'i's latest promotion. It is high time we must accept efforts and progress of our colleagues," said Ogugu.
He added that Matiang'i has support from the Gusii community leaders in his new role.
The Magenche ward MCA reiterated the need of Gusii leaders unity.
"Elected leaders from Gusii region must remain united for the sake of effectively negotiating for the national cake. We will not continue being in the political cold," he added.
