A source privy to the ongoing probe over Ms. Otieno's murder, said days after the student died, Obado rushed to Raila's home where he pleaded with Ida Odinga to ask the opposition leader to intervene.

"He had distanced himself from the murder but there was a lot of pressure. He visited Raila's home and held a meeting with Mama Ida.

"He urged her to ask Raila to intervene but the former PM, who wasn't around anyway, dismissed the offer asking him to face the law," said the source.

On Monday, Obado was charged with murder and subsequently remanded at Industrial Area prison as the court waits to evaluate his bond application.

His aides, Michael Oyamo, Casper Obiero and Elvis Omondi have since been detained and charged with murder.

Autopsy on the late student, whom Obado acknowledged that was his girlfriend, showed that she had been stabbed eight times on the abdomen.

DNA tests carried out also showed Obado was the father of the unborn child thus making him a prime suspect on the murder probe.

Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati on Monday asked ODM party to expel the governor arguing that 'he's a bad example to the youth'.
