This, however, comes amid uncertainty among his fellow leaders hailing from Central Kenya as a result of President Uhuru Kenyatta's refusal to make a declaration on the same.

Uhuru, the region's kingpin, initially vowed to back Ruto come 2022 but has since gone silent on the issue, with some politicians suspecting that he might have changed his mind.

But in an interview on Radio Jambo Thursday morning, Ngunjiri said that he will keep pushing for a Ruto presidency even if Uhuru were to change his mind.

"Kila mtu ana maoni yake. Hata ikiwa Uhuru atabadilisha mimi niko na kura yangu na nitasimama na Ruto.

(Whatever he says will be his own opinion. Personally, I will stand with Ruto)," he said.

He added that Uhuru's endorsement would not be an assurance of a win in Central Kenya anyway, as despite being the region's leader, he cannot control the electorate on how to vote.

This comes barely a week after Ruto declared his readiness to fight his way up, adding that he is not expecting an automatic backing.

He spoke when he hosted delegations from Vihiga and Bomet at his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu County on Thursday last week.
