There was drama in Nairobi Milimani court when a suspect charged with attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar broke down to tears.
Juliet Charity Njeri cried loudly in court after being asked to respond to charges of planning Mukhtar’s attempted murder.
The emotional suspect broke down to tears forcing the court to adjourn for several minutes.Njoki claimed that she was tortured in police cells and is allegedly nursing serious injuries. The suspect who pleaded not guilty to the charges told the court that she was being framed. She dismissed claims that she is the wife of Mohamud Hussein Aden, a key suspect in the case.
Njoki pleaded with Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi to hear her story in camera.
The prosecution, however, opposed the move stating that the suspect was pretending.
The prosecution led by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Solomon Njeru told the court that they have enough evidence linking the suspect to the attempted murder.
"The accused person cannot compel the court to have a private session with her when these case has attracted much public attention," the prosecutor said.
The court will rule on whether to grant the two suspects bond or bail on September 18.The attempted murder on Mukhtar has crated political tension in Garissa even as detectives say that they are still pursuing more suspects.#hivisasaoriginal
