He termed some of their foreign trips as "vacuum trips" with no usefulness to the Kenyan taxpayers.

Speaking on Wednesday night on Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) show,  the UNCTD boss expressed his embarrassment at the rate at which politicians visit Geneva on account of attending UNCTD meetings which they do not.

"From where I sit, it embarrasses me when I see the number of MCAs, MPs who come to Geneva on official visits but they do not go to any meetings yet they get $1000 per diem per day," he remarked.

He further noted that this is a wastage of taxpayers money which Kenyans should rise up against.

In the recent past, Parliament, county assemblies and even the Office of the President have been in the eye of a storm over numerous foreign trips.

Several quarters argue that foreign trips add no value to the lives of Kenyan citizens.

Reports by the Auditor-General Edward Ouko indicate that for the three months leading to September last year, Parliament increased its foreign travel budget to Sh508.6 million.

Last year, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria asked Speaker Justin Muturi to ban foreign travel for MPs.

He cited this would save about Sh6 billion which is gobbled up in foreign trips.
