The MPs have since approved an additional Sh250, 000 for the purpose, but the MP says that he is not even aware if he will be receiving the extra money or not.

He now says that he is awaiting the arrival of his payslip to establish if he is a beneficiary, saying that they (lawmakers) are never alerted on what awaits them at the end of the month.

"Sijaona payslip yangu kwa hivyo sijui kama nimeongezewa mshahara au la. Huwa hatuambiwi tutakacholipwa hadi mwisho wa mwezi (I have seen by payslip so I cannot confirm whether or not I have benefitted. We have to wait until end month to know what we have earned)," he said.

The MP was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday evening.

On Tuesday, Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino lashed out at fellow MPs for pushing for the extra benefits, saying that it is heaping more tax burden on the already overburdened Kenyan.

He was speaking on Milele FM's Kivumbi show on Tuesday morning.

But the move has been supported by COTU boss Francis Atwoli who says that the money will find its way back to Kenyans through handouts and fundraiser contributions.
