Kondele ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Joachim Okech popularly known among his supporters as Swagga, is, without doubt, one of the most popular MCAs in the county.
His flashy dress code and youthful demeanour endears him to many in Kondele and beyond.
But what most people do not however know is that Swagga can be said to be among the richest MCAs in Kisumu, having made his name in the business world before joining politics and dethroning his predecessor Gabriel Ochieng.
While being interviewed by the Nairobian early this year, Swagga disclosed that he is a transporter with a fleet of matatus and trucks.
He also revealed that he owns pubs in Kisumu, besides having an interest in real estate.
The Maseno University alumni started small by operating pool tables and video showrooms in social places in Kisumu, long before he even thought of joining politics.
“As my savings grew, I established video shows across the town where people would come and watch football,” the father of three said.
“I rely on my business because that is where my money comes from. My proceeds from the county assembly only help me to supplement what I have to help assist the people,” he added.
