A Nyamira based politician has ordered Nyamira county government and the national government to compensate residents of Mosobeti village in Nyamira County who are counting losses after afternoon storm on Saturday destroyed several residential houses, schools, markets, shops and farms.
Victor Swanya, Wiper Party vice chairman argued that heavy rains destroyed tea farm plantations and maize farms leaving residents with no hope.
"The government should move with speed and compensate the flood victims because they lost everything during the heavy rains. Nyamira county government led by Governor John Nyagarama should collaborate with the national government to have the affected villages compensated," he said.
He regretted that Nyamira county government has not spoken after the heavy rains that carried the whole village.
"Nyagarama's government is yet to issue a statement to comfort the affected villagers. This tells how ignorance Nyagarama is. Villagers should be compensated because there are funds set aside for disasters," he added.
Swanya said the affected schools should be repaired for the smooth running of learning.
"Pupils should not be left at home just because rains destroyed their schools. Leaders need to act to have the schools repaired without delay," he noted.
