In an interview with journalists on Thursday, Rono, he recanted evidence against Ruto,  linked unnamed State House operatives and Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny as masterminds of the plot.

“I am among three former witnesses approached by Kutuny and Harambee House operatives to go back to ICC and fix the DP over claims of witness tampering," he said.

Rono said recent statements by Bensouda that she was gathering fresh evidence in the Kenyan cases came because of the fresh efforts by Kutuny and others at Harambee house to fix the DP ahead of 2022.

“As former witnesses, we have rejected that plan and that is why Kutuny and his colleagues have been coming up with all manner of claims against the DP," he said.

This is not the first time a high profile individual attached to DP William Ruto is making such serious allegations.

In May this year, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen accused sections of individuals at Harambee House of working hard to block Ruto's 2022 bid.

"We know a clique of people at Harambee House keen to bring the DP down. They are in charge of making policy and we know them."

But Mr Kutuny, who at one time worked as President Uhuru Kenyatta's political advisor, dismissed the allegations as 'nonsense'.
