Lucia Murotto was born in a flashy lifestyle in the leafy suburbs of Runda but this did not stop her from going for what her heart desired, touting.
Lucia, an Italian born in Kenya, says that while growing up she had the mentality to get what she wanted and that is why she got into the touting job and stuck to it.
"I wake up very early and come back home very late from work but I normally put my life in God’s hands and this far He has protected me. I got into the matatu industry through friends and I was accepted by my colleagues," Lucia told Jeff Koinange Live show on Wednesday.
She added that being a conductor has been very exciting for her noting that she has met different 'amazing' people even though while growing up she never thought she would one day be a tout.
"I’m used to people staring at me and most of them engage me and ask questions. Some people engage in dirty talks thinking that I do not understand, only to be surprised when I later respond to them in sheng or Swahili," she says.
Lucia says that her parents are now okay with what she does saying as long as she is happy then they are happy too.
The 'mzungu' tout who makes over Sh50,000 monthly, says her dream is to own a matatu as it has a huge impact on the society and the economy.
She, however, notes that she would quit touting if she got her own matatu.
"There is no point of me owning a matatu and still work on it, that is just too much greed. I would rather employ someone else, there are people out there without jobs," says Lucia.
Lucia plies the Kitengela route but says whenever she is not on that route, she gets calls from friends to work on matatus plying other routes.
She also reveals that she has no problem with police officers as 'it all depends on your approach and attitude'.
