Two teachers have been charged with manslaughter, negligence in Yatta, Machakos County.
The duo from Syokisinga Secondary School was arraigned at Kithimani Law Courts on Monday.
Kennedy Musyoki and Faustina Chelimo who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.
According to the prosecution, the two are accused of failing in their responsibilities of taking care of the students who drowned in River Athi on Friday last week.
This is after the teachers took the form one students to the river for a geographical study which turned tragic after four students drowned.
The four, three boys and one girl attempted to swim after complaining of a hot and sunny afternoon.
The girl is said to have died while attempting to save the others.
However, the court ordered for the two to be remanded at Matuu police station for seven days before being returned to court.
This is after the prosecution asked the court for time to conduct more investigations into the case.
The bodies were removed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital Mortuary.
Leaders from Machakos have continued to condole with the school and families of the deceased.
