The institution was commissioned by former United States President and Auma's stepbrother Barrack Obama in June last year.

Auma now says that the centre could take a little longer to begin operations as plans are in place to equip it with necessary machinery to cover the relevant courses it is supposed to offer.

This follows questions from locals who want to know why the centre is yet to begin full operations, but Auma says the ongoing process might take the whole of this year.

“We are developing the training programme in conjunction with partners, both national and international. We are also in the process of equipping the centre with the necessary machinery for each course,” Auma was quoted by the Daily Nation on Tuesday.

But Kogello Project Director said that the delay is also to blame on financial constrains.

“We rely on donor funding and to this extent, I can say we received funding for the construction of the facilities but we are yet to get sponsors to furnish the facility with various study equipment and machinery,” he said.

The Barack Hussein Obama Snr Centre for Knowledge, Learning and Excellence is one of its kind in the area.

It boasts of among others, basketball and soccer pitches and volleyball and netball courts.
