Speaking on a prime time program aired on KTN on Thursday, Mr Kioko shared his perspective on the most important aspect of the results.

According to him the most important element of the poll is not who won but the difference of votes between the victor and the losers.

Given that the constituency is regarded as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) turf, the votes separating what the party's candidate gets and what rival parties get would be of great importance.

"What will be looked at more closely in the by-election in Kibra is the difference in the number of votes between the ODM candidate (Kitakachoangaliwa zaidi katika uchaguzi mdogo wa Kibra ni tofauti kati ya kura za mwaniaji wa ODM na wawaniaji wengine)," the analyst said.

The Kibra contest was framed by a section of political pundits as a proxy war between veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga and his long-time political adversary Deputy President Dr William Ruto.

There are those who have held the view that how parties performed in the by-election will inform 2022 alignments.

Even though the former prime minister Raila Odinga has been coy about his presidential ambitions, DP Ruto has made it clear that he will be in the race for the top office seat.
