Chief Justice David Maraga has revealed that the construction of the Sh347 million Law Courts complex for the Nakuru region will be completed by August.
Speaking in Nakuru on Thursday after touring the facility for inspection, the CJ said the completion of the project will go a long way in improving service delivery in the region.
The project had been slated for completion by end of 2017, however, it stalled for a year due to changes in the foundation's design.
“We are here for the inspection on the ongoing World Bank project. The contractor has assured me that the work will be complete latest by August. The facility will help improve service delivery in the region.” said Maraga.
The CJ noted that the ultra-modern courtrooms will be able to accommodate litigants and advocates as one of the ways in easing the congestion witnessed in the past few decades.
The station’s up-coming 3-storey ultra-modern building is funded by the World Bank under its Judicial Performance Improvement Program within the Country.
The Court building, upon completion, will contain several Court rooms including the Court of Appeal, Judges and Magistrates’ Chambers, an underground holding cell for suspects and a Library.
According to Maraga, the Judiciary targets to have at least one High Court station in every county and Magistrate’s Courts in every constituency.
So far, there are 39 High Court stations in 38 counties.
The Sh10.5 billion World Bank-funded projects include the construction of modern multi-storeyed buildings to house High Courts in Mombasa, Kakamega, Siaya, Kwale, Nakuru, Voi and Garissa.
