Popular radio Citizen presenter Jeridah Andayi has come out to defend TV news anchor Jacque Maribe after the public attacked and criticized her relationship with Joseph Irungu. Irungu is currently the prime suspect in the ruthless murder of Monica Kimani, a case which has seen Maribe also named as a key suspect and even detained.
Kenyans on social media have apparently not taken lightly the revelation of the fact that Maribe was housing and providing for her boyfriend throughout the period they were engaged.
Celebrated radio queen Jeridah Andayi who is also a colleague to Maribe has, however, come out to defend Maribe and discourage Kenyans from judging her. Andayi took to Facebook to explain why it was wrong for Kenyans to criticize Maribe's personal life.
"I’m in the media. I’m a woman. I’m well known and so I feel right now what Jacque is going through. Most of this is because she’s well known and so she gets judged for everything. I know it. I get judged all the time because I’m in the limelight. Would you all be interested in this case if it wasn’t a media personality? I doubt," part of the Andayi's emotional Facebook post read.
According to Andayi, TV and radio personalities are human beings too and they also have a private life which should be respected. She went ahead to reason out that news presenters being in the limelight does not give anyone the right to judge them.
"And oh yes, we realize that we’re greatly privileged to occupy the public space. That does not make us less or more of humans. Every time you feel entitled to judge those in public eye, think again!" Andayi concluded her message to Kenyans.
