A week to his much anticipated trip to Nyamira and Kisii Counties, President Uhuru Kenyatta has cancelled the visit, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has confirmed.
For the last week, the area leadership under Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii), have met area MPs twice in preparation for the trip, with Ongwae formally revealing details on Tuesday.
"We have been meeting to discuss the president's trip. All is now set and we shall host him on January 23th and 24th. It will be a unity meeting where we shall also have development projects launched."
The President had planned the trip when he met the two governors in Kisumu in December and was set to come along with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
And according to Nyamoko, the current situation in the country informed the president's decision despite earlier indication that he was to attend.
"He has cancelled it until further notice. He was going to come and all of us were ready for him. It's unfortunate that he's not coming but we do understand that he's got a lot to fix in Nairobi following Tuesday's incident in Nairobi."
In his press conference on Wednesday, a visibly angry Uhuru vowed to have criminals who planned and executed Dusit Hotel attack that claimed 21 lives.
The trip would have been the president's first to the populous region since his re-election as president in October 2017.
