Katwa Kigen on Monday made the case to Kiambu Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku to grant his client, renowned journalist Jacque Maribe, bail but his application was rejected.

For the first time in a long time, the Kenyan public was able to see the face of Mr Kigen thanks to a case mounted against Maribe over the cold-blood murder of Monica Kimani.

But who is this man Katwa Kigen?

Here are facts about him that you probably did not know:

Mr Kigen studied Law at the University of Nairobi.

In the year 1996 after finishing his legal studies, he was admitted to the bar as an advocate of the High Court.

He worked with Nyairo and Company Advocates and later on joined Ochieng, Onyango, Kibet& Ohaga Advocates.

Having gained experience in the two legal firms, he founded Kigen and Kemboi Advocates.

The lawyer shot to prominence during the ICC cases where he represented former KASS radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang.

Kigen is not just proficient in criminal law but also in commercial law.

In an interview with a television station, Mr Kigen revealed that he did not set out to be a lawyer as a kid but had wanted to be a journalist.
