A section of youths in Nyamira county have protested Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's tough rules on gambling.
The youths, speaking in Nyamira town on Monday evening, accused Matiang'i for coming up with rules which will make youths suffer most.
"As youths we have opted to gambling to make a living because the government has failed to create jobs for the youths. All we are seeing is old people being recycled in jobs instead of youths to be given jobs. Matiang'i's latest stand on gambling businesses is uncalled for and unacceptable," said Ben Ogwora.
Boniface Kerema faulted Matiang'i over his intention to lock out gamblers saying more youths will be idle in villages thus increase crime.
"Matiang'i should instead push for legalization of gambling businesses because most graduate jobless youths have been employed at gambling shops earning a living. The tough rules on gamblers will also see the same youths becoming jobless," said Kerema.
Cyrus Orero challenged Matiang'i being a super minister to champion for more youths to get employed by government.
Charles Nyaribo condemned Matiang'i terming him a dictator in the making.
"Matiang'i is becoming a dictator after he was promoted. He is busy misusing his powers instead of championing for more youths to get employment," said Nyaribo.
The Interior Minister on Monday suspended licences of all betting firms due July this year, adding that those intending to renew must be tax compliant before any clearance is done.
