Deputy President William Ruto has been castigated by different quarters for engaging in early campaigns in favour of his 2022 presidential bid.
Specifically, several politicians from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by James Orengo have been faulting Ruto for derailing the president's Big Four Agenda.
Amid the accusations, one politician from Kiambu county has stood up to publicly campaign for the embattled DP, raising speculation that he might be Ruto's preferred running mate in 2022 from the Kikuyu community.
Ferdinand Waititu, the incumbent Kiambu county governor is on record traversing the country with DP Ruto while drumming support for the latter's presidency bid. Again, he has also evolved to become his biggest ally in defending him against a number of multi-billion graft scandals of Kimwarer and Arror dams.
While accompanying Ruto in his recent tour in Kakamega county, Waititu publicly declared his support for the DP claiming the move is unstoppable.
Even as the Uhuru-Raila handshake continues to create more rifts in Jubilee, what now remains at stake is whether Uhuru will endorse Ruto as per their pre-coalition agreement.
It is also a game of wait-and-see if Ruto will pick Waititu as his preferred running mate.
