Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has of late been appearing in public with a group of legislators from the Central region who are opposed to Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
The group led by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu and his nominated counterpart Maina Kamanda have openly criticized DP Ruto’s leadership qualities.
Kutuny made a come back in 2017 general elections after clinching the same seat he had failed to defend in 2013.
Up to 2017, the former political advisor in the office of the president was a close confidant and an ally to DP Ruto but what led to the fallout of the two politicians is not clear.
Kutuny linked the DP to the maize scandal which had affected farmers and has been on the opposite side to that of the second man in command over the ongoing graft war where a majority of his Rift Valley have been defending him (Ruto). In fact, the MP has warned Kenyans against voting for DP Ruto as the next head of state.
All these are dangerous for the vocal legislator’s political life.
DP Ruto commands the largest portion of the vote-rich Rift Valley region and he might field a candidate to oppose Kutuny just like what he did in the Bomet gubernatorial seat in 2017 where former governor Isaac Rutto lost to Joyce Laboso.
If Kutuny will not go back to his political ‘father’, then chances are high that he would not be in the next parliament.
