Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga will on Thursday meet Central Management Committee over Kibra by-election nominations.
The ODM party has already cleared 11 candidates to take part in the September 7th nominations that are scheduled to be held in all voting stations.
But behind the scenes, senior party officials have been lobbying to have candidates consider consensus, to avoid fierce nominations that could be rocked with chaos and dissatisfaction.
At first, Mr Odinga, who visited the region last month, was of the opinion that candidates be subjected to nominations, but prevailing circumstances may have made him change his mind.
Thursday's meeting will be meant for feedback on the behind the scenes lobbying to have all candidates picking one of them to contest.
"He fears having a scenario where opponents take advantage and infiltrate the exercise. That is why he has called a meeting to mull for consensus," said a source who spoke in confidence.
"Opponents could distabilise nominations to their advantage that's why Jakom wants the candidates to agree. Nominations will be the last option."
Already, the party's Electoral Board under Senator Judith Pareno has finalized plans to conduct nominations should Thursday's meeting settle on it.
ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire on Wednesday said the party is ready for nominations, adding that should the said consensus flop, candidates should be ready for universal suffrage.
"Yes, you doubting? Fine, but they must be prepared for reality in case of misunderstanding, all options on the table," said Bosire, who sits in the committee in reference to nominations.
Should the candidates settle on consensus, those who have paid the nomination fee will have their money returned. The party will present the name of winner on Monday.
The ODM candidate is expected carry on with the legacy of Ken Okoth, the former MP who succumbed to cancer in July after months on treatment abroad.
