The future of underage children in Igonga, Bomariba ward in Kisii County is hanging on the balance due to the increase in illegal gambling businesses.
Locals led by Ronald Oteyo say police officers in the area have not tackled the illegal business.
Mr Oteyo claims that several underage children have been thronging gambling business places without police officers taking any action.
“Police officers have been collecting bribes from the gambling business owners for the underage children to continue gambling. Urgent measures need to be put before the future of our children is ruined,” he appealed to the state.
Lukas Nyabuti, another area resident protested the police officers' laxity in flushing out illegal business owners from the area.
“We are appealing to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to move with speed for the sake of saving the future of our youths. Gambling business must come to an end,” he stated.
Benjamin Ayuma area assistant chief admitted that the gambling businesses are at their peak and underage children are gambling.
"I have received complains from locals over the gambling business and I'm doing everything possible to end the illegal business and shut down gambling dens," he noted.
He said the issue of police officers demanding for bribes must be investigated to establish whether it is true or not.
